supporting local sport

Part of Darlington Building Society's ethos of looking after local interests is building enduring relationships with grass roots sport in the region.  Below are just a few of the teams, organisations and individuals we support.

Darlington FC
For over 10 years the Society has been the main shirt sponsor of Darlington FC.  The Society's logo is emblazoned across the team's shirts and the club has benefited from the financial support provided by our Quakers' Supporter savings account.

North Yorkshire and South Durham (NYSD) Premier Cricket League
The Society has sponsored the North Yorkshire and South Durham (NYSD) Premier Cricket League since 1990, one of the most enduring sponsorships in cricket.  The NYSD Premier Cricket League consists of 26 clubs throughout the region from Barnard Castle to Redcar.

Sharon Gayter, Great Britain's top female 24 hour runner
In July 2008 the Society  is sponsoring Sharon Gayter as she attempts the 'World's Hottest Race' across Death Valley, Badwater USA, a distance of 135 miles. Between 17 and 23 November 2007 we sponsored Sharon in her world record attempt for the distance covered in 6 days. The 6 day race took place in Monaco and involved running around a small loop in the harbour approximately one mile in distance.  The event raised money and awareness for Asthma UK. Unfortunately Sharon had to retire from the race due to injury and was unable to beat her target of the British record of 730.765 km.   In 2006 Sharon broke the world record for running from Lands End to John O'Groats (LE JOG) by covering the distance of 837 miles in 12 days and 16 hours.

Local Heroes
Darlington Building Society has sponsored the Northern Echo Local Heroes supplement and Awards since inception.  The Society is keen to support grass roots sport in the region and sees Local Heroes as an ideal platform for local sportsmen and women to raise their profiles to an enthusiastic audience.
