opening your account at a branch
If you open your account at a branch, you will need to let us have one proof of your name and one proof of your address. You must supply one original document from each list below:
Proof of your name
- Current valid full UK passport
- Current UK full, signed driving licence or photocard
- Medical Card - but only for applicants under 18 years of age
- Birth Certificate - but only for applicants under 18 years of age
- Current firearms certificate or shotgun licence
- Benefits payment book/letter from benefits agency
Proof of your address
- Current UK full, signed driving licence or photocard
- Utility Bill dated within the last three months i.e Gas, Electricity or Telephone (not mobile)
- Council Tax/ Water bill for the current year
- Credit Card statement within the last month
- Recent bank or building society account statement

Opening an Individual Savings Account (ISA)
If you are opening an ISA, you must provide a valid National Insurance Number (not a temporary National Insurance Number), as well as proving your identity.
Opening an account for an organisation
If you are opening an account for a company or other organisation you must prove the identification of the account holders for:
- Directors of the company/charity
- Trustees of a club
- Intended account signatories
- Partners of a partnership
The documentation required to evidence the identity of these individuals is the same as that listed above. In addition we require:
- Sight of the certificate of incorporation/charities registration document/club constitution/partnership agreement
- A copy of a minute of a meeting authorising the opening of the account
- A minute of a meeting confirming who the signatories are appointed to operate the account.
