FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR DARLY!

FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR DARLY!
Darlington Building Society is on track to support young savers in the area, having introduced its new children’s savings account – complete with Darly the train money boxes.

Darly has been created by a team at the building society in conjunction with Harrogate-based brand agency Shift. The ceramic money boxes have been designed to express Darly’s character and are intended to encourage youngsters into a savings habit. Children will receive a money box as a welcome gift when they open an account. As children save, they will be able to collect three carriages in bronze, silver and gold to go with the engine by saving regularly and building up the money in their account.

Adam Lloyd, Creative Director at Shift said: “We have been thrilled to work with the team at Darlington Building Society to create Darly. From the initial concept, we wanted to combine the rich railway heritage of the area with a modern twist that would appeal to the younger generations. We are delighted with the results and look forward to seeing how Darly progresses in the future.”

The Society also worked closely alongside local company Simply Thank You to enable a bespoke mould to be made to create the Darly money boxes. Now all 10 branches across the region are fully stocked and ready to support local children to save. The branches will also have Darly goody bags for children across the school half-term, so don’t forgot to pop into your local branch.

Andrew Slade, Client Service Manager at Simply Thank You, said: ”The chance to bring to life a character that we hope will become known across the region, has been a fantastic opportunity. We have made sure that every detail in the original design has been reflected in the mould and the final money boxes.

Caroline Darnbrook who created the concept and led the team in creating Darly said:  “Darlington is the home of the railway and that was the inspiration behind Darly. Darly undoubtedly has its own personality and is beautifully made, with a real attention to detail.

“Collecting the train and carriages will be a real spur to saving.  It is a great opportunity to start young children on the road to learning about the value of money and getting into the savings habit.  Taking the opportunity to instil the value of money into children is crucial in helping them to grow into financially astute adults and our new account combines this with the chance to own the fantastic Darly.”
