This Privacy Policy indicates Darlington Building Society's procedures and policies regarding the collection and use of your personal information via its website.  By using our website you agree to the use of your information as set out below.  You are not required to provide your details or complete any registration process before you can use our website.

What personal information do we collect?

We will collect various pieces of information about you when you complete our on-line request forms, including items such as: your name; your email address; your postal address; your telephone number; and whether or not you consent to our use of your information for marketing.


Our system makes use of cookies (or similar programs) to collect various pieces of information when you visit our website. (c) credit and fraud prevention agencies and other financial organisations to prevent fraud and theft and to assist in the making of lending and credit decisions. Further information will be provided if you apply for a product or service which involves searches with credit reference or fraud prevention agencies;

(d) debt collection agencies to enable defaulting debtors to be traced and pursued;

(e) the administrators and underwriters of insurance products and to any other companies and organisations in conjunction with which we provide products or services, or whose products or services we provide to you (such as home insurance) and to our wholly owned company, Darlington Investment Planning Limited;

(f) our agents, staff and approved parties to do any of the above things on our behalf (on the understanding that it will be kept confidential).
If we sell our business or integrate it with another or dispose of any rights in relation to you, your details may be disclosed to our advisors and those of prospective purchasers, and passed on to any new owners of our business to be used in the same way as set out in this privacy policy.


We have in place security procedures for the storage and disclosure of your personal information to prevent its loss, misuse, alteration or theft and in order to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998.  However we cannot guarantee the security of any data disclosed on-line and you accept the inherent security risks of providing information over the internet.  We use 128-bit secure encryption through a secure socket layer.  This is currently the internet standard for the secure transmission of data.  You may see your browser show a padlock or key at the bottom right hand side of your screen.  For more information about the security settings double click on this icon when it appears.
