Last week we were thrilled to be a part of Festival of Thrift in Redcar.
Over the weekend, we delivered eight financial wellbeing workshops and got to speak to lots of people in our local community about who we are at Darlington Building Society, and how we can help.
Our workshops delivered budgeting tips and promoted confidence in budget planning for better financial wellness. Our partners at Wren Sterling also delivered financial planning workshops and offered financial advice.
Children enjoyed painting moneyboxes to take home and begin their very own savings journeys.
Elsewhere, in the Enrichment Tent, Peter Barron, Board member and author of Darly’s Magical History Ride, performed a book reading to an excitable audience of engaged children. They had lots of fun dressing up as Darly’s friends in history including soldiers, kings and even a dinosaur!
Louise Thorpe, Distribution Director said: “What a fantastic event. Festival of Thrift is a family occasion and we were lucky enough to be able to speak to lots of families over the weekend, whether that was about their finances, or just generally introducing ourselves.
“Colleagues really did us proud by showing up in force to volunteer over the weekend and make the event such a success. Against the backdrop of the fun there was a very real undertone of people being conscious of their finances amid the cost of living increases. So it felt really important that we were there to deliver useful workshops, provide advice and generally provide people with reassurance and help. For anyone who missed us but would still like to have a ‘Money MOT’, please contact your local branch.”
