Bowes Museum

We are delighted to be exhibition partner for Clockwork Garden, an immersive and interactive show promising a magical experience for all ages, from the national children’s arts charity, The House of Fairy Tales.

The exhibition - which opens at the end of July and runs until November - is aimed at the young and the young at heart. It begins with a two day festival of art and creativity (30 and 31 July) delivered by a host of actors and entertainers to capture the imaginations of those exploring the fascinating world of automata and horticulture.

To ensure that this intriguing and magical experience is open to all, Darlington Building Society has generously contributed towards a family accessibility programme, complementing the Society’s desire to share profits with the communities they serve.

Clockwork Garden is set to be the Museum’s biggest family draw since Toy Tales, bringing families from far and wide to delve further into this fantastical story with a Clockwork Garden adventure trail, illustrated maps, tasks and creative challenges.

This opportunity to engage with children fits with the Society’s ethos of nurturing children along the savings path via its newly launched the Darly Young Saver Account.

The Society’s support will also benefit members of a young parent group run by Barnard Castle YMCA, which is already up and running at the Museum. Its relaxed and welcoming monthly session includes facilitated play, a craft, snack, singing and a trail round the Museum, which is hoped will inspire the participants to further explore the Museum through the exhibition programme.
