As Head of Intermediary Distribution, Chris Blewitt and his team work closely with mortgage brokers to make sure their customers can get a mortgage they’re satisfied with, and help put them into their new homes.
In his younger days, Chris dreamed of joining the police force, driving him to study criminology at university. However, when the global financial crash happened in 2008, his offer to join Cleveland Police was withdrawn.
Instead, Chris took a job with EE as a retail sales coach, where his talent was quickly recognised, and he was promoted into a regional management role.
After some time in this role, Chris decided it was time for a change. Asking himself, ‘What would I be proud to do?’, he heard that Darlington Building Society was on the lookout for a new manager for the Tubwell Row branch in Darlington.
Chris’s experience in customer service proved a perfect match for the Society’s ‘customers-first’ philosophy, and Chris took up his new role in 2015. Later, an opportunity arose on the business development side, and Chris jumped at the chance to bring his expertise to a wider audience.
Overnight, he went to helping more than 2,000 customers, as he spearheaded the introduction of the Darlington Building Society brand to the North-West of England.
Chris finally moved into his current role in late 2020, and he hasn’t looked back since. The dedication to helping people that once drove Chris to apply to join the police is utilised every day for the benefit of the Society’s members.
“Doing this, working for Society, it’s not just about getting people mortgages,” Chris said, “It’s about more than just bricks and mortar – it’s helping people get a platform to start building their lives.”
