Scarborough disability action group

Scarborough Disability Group applied to Darlington Building Society’s 5% Pledge, and was awarded £400 to continue providing its vital services.

The charity provides free activities for disabled and disadvantaged people across Scarborough and the surrounding area.

Ian Whitfield, the group’s Chairman, said: “We are very grateful to Darlington Building Society. There is not much funding available from major supermarkets or big corporations in Scarborough, so this donation is fantastic. We can carry on being there for people in our community.

“We’re offer a variety of activities for our members such as exercise classes, indoor bowls and arts and crafts get togethers. There’s also an amateur singing group and various trips.

“It’s not just about activities, but providing a space for people to come together, make friends and be accepted. The group gives people somewhere they can look forward to coming to.”

Lisa Sidgwick, manager of Darlington Building Society’s Redcar and Guisborough branches, said: “This is exactly the sort of cause we want to support in our communities. Therefore I’m pleased that by sharing our profits, we can help further Scarborough Disability Action Group’s good work.”

Scarborough Disability Action Group accepts members from all over the Scarborough area, including members of other groups. Visit their website for more information.
