Today marks Random Acts of Kindness Day, and it is something that is close to Darlington Building Society’s heart.
As a mutual, kindness is an integral part of our purpose: Donating 5% of our profits to local charities and good causes; Volunteering time and sharing our spaces with our Local 5 adopted charities; Being family focused when it comes to delivering a work-life balance for staff.
We reinvest our profits to benefit our members with exclusive products and by improving the areas in which they live.
As a mutual, being ‘kind’ is fundamentally linked to our day to day operations.
For this year’s Random Act of Kindness Day, we wanted to show our appreciation for our members and local communities, whilst encouraging staff to embrace the spirit of the day too.
For our members
Nine members at random from across our branch network will receive a hamper from our branch colleagues throughout the day.
For our staff
Kindness comes easily to our fantastic staff. Today, however, we’re really doubling down by encouraging all staff to reach out and show kindness to others.
For our local communities
Staff from each of our nine branches and Head Office will deliver hampers to nine of our Local 5 charity partners, spreading the kindness out into our local communities.
Niki Barker, Director of People and Culture commented: “It’s been another tough year for everybody, so what better way to brighten people’s day than with a random act of kindness?
“Darlington Building Society is centred around its members, staff and the local communities in which it serves. Today provides an opportunity to give back in a small way to all of those who make up the Society.
“We work closely with local charities and good causes as part of our community strategy. So, it is fulfilling to be able to send a ‘thank you’ to random charity partners for all their hard work.
“It was also rewarding to brighten the days of members – for their support and for choosing Darlington Building Society.”
