Nine jobs created at Darlington Building Society

Darlington Building Society has created nine new roles across the region.

The branch-based Customer Service Assistant roles have largely been offered to those in further education. As a proud Real Living Wage employer, the Society will pay new recruits who are under the age of 18 the same rate as peers in the same role.

The Society has chosen to invest in its workforce to provide a better service for members, to alleviate pressure on existing branch staff during busy periods, and to enable more family-supportive working patterns for all branch staff.

Seven of the roles have already been filled, with two vacancies remaining at the Barnard Castle and Northallerton branches.

Two of the successful applicants secured their roles after demonstrating an impressive work ethic over summer while working full-time at the Society.

Niki Barker, Director of People and Culture at Darlington Building Society said: “Being able to offer permanent jobs to people who have shown such hard work and dedication to the Society over the summer is tremendously fulfilling. Offering nine people in total a rung on the career ladder is even better.

“The value of family time was brought home to us all during the pandemic. The introduction of these roles, combined with new branch opening hours, are just some of the ways the Society is responding to enable more family-supportive working patterns.

“Members of our Executive Team started in-branch, so the Society has a validated history of career progression and professional development. We’re massive advocates of ‘grow your own’ talent, and we see these roles as the beginning of an exciting adventure.

“The Society recorded positive financial results in the first half of 2021, and we want to continue to build on that in line with our strategy, by investing in people.

“We wish all the very best to the new starters who are undergoing their induction this week, and we’re looking forward to filling the remaining roles with more positive, passionate individuals.”

In addition to creating new roles, the Society is also developing existing talent, with up to five senior promotions within the branch network.

These important roles will drive customer care, oversee savings retention and support community work at a branch level, all to help evolve and grow the Society.
