Darlington Building Society is supportive of the government’s Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship scheme, which will enable homeowners across the UK to provide accommodation in their own home to refugees fleeing the war.

If you have a mortgage with Darlington Building Society, and are considering taking part as a sponsor in the scheme, please consider the below points:

1.  Inform us – It is important that you inform us of your participation in the Homes for Ukraine scheme once the joint visa application, made with a named Ukrainian individual/family, is granted. Simply call our team on 01325 366 366 or email and we’ll be glad to help.

2.  Check your insurance policy – Is your home insurance provider supportive of the Homes for Ukraine scheme? Please check before you consider committing to the scheme.

3.  Keep updated – Because of the nature of this humanitarian crisis, we expect policies and guidance to develop at pace. Therefore, we ask that you keep up to date with the latest guidance and information by visiting the government’s dedicated website.

We are working closely with the Building Societies Association (BSA) and UK Finance as the scheme develops.

The trade associations commented: “UK Finance and the BSA are working closely with the government as the scheme details are finalised, with the objective of it being implemented as quickly and simply as possible, enabling homeowners to participate easily.”

Donations can be made directly to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal on their website:

Donations will help provide food, water, first aid medicines, clothing and shelter to those on the ground in Ukraine. Darlington Building Society has donated £5,000 to the appeal.
