Darlington Building Society continues to grow its own talent

Published: 10 February 2022

Four Darlington Building Society staff have been promoted as we continue ‘grow our own’ talent.

Virginia Parry now manages the newly refurbished Northallerton branch.

Lauren Fleming takes over Guisborough branch.

Amy Burney is Barnard Castle branch’s new Branch Manager.

Amy Walker is now a Branch Manager on the Senior Flexible Resource team.

These promotions follow the recent addition of nine new part-time branch roles.

Growing our own talent

The Society’s ‘grow your own’ philosophy champions staff to build their careers within the business.  Part-time roles have developed into senior leaders through the Society’s dedication to personal and professional development.

The ‘grow your own’ strategy is successfully delivered by funding training, apprenticeships and Masters degrees. Sometimes it includes arranging secondments or simply listening and supporting.

Andrew Craddock, Darlington Building Society Chief Executive said:

“A huge congratulations to all four newly promoted colleagues. The diverse role of a branch manager can be challenging and it requires a wealth of skills and an abundance of talent.

“Amy, Amy, Lauren and Virginia are shining examples of how hard work and dedication pays off at Darlington Building Society. I anticipate big things in their futures as their careers continue to flourish.

“At Darlington Building Society, when we say we ‘grow our own’ talent, we really mean it.

“Developing talent from within is important as experience cannot be taught. Investing in tomorrow’s leaders benefits the individuals, the Society, its members and the wider region.

“We have an extremely talented pool of staff who are dedicated to developing their careers. In some instances, they haven’t gone to university, or circumstances may have dictated a later life career change. Darlington Building Society doesn’t discriminate.

“If an individual has a dream to succeed, talent to nurture, and the dedication to commit, we help them every step of the way to make it a reality.”

“The level of uptake is testament to people enjoying being a part of an inclusive, supportive team. We can’t ask for more than that.”
