Darlington Building Society is invested in being a supportive employer and this World Mental Health Day would like to underline its ongoing commitment to its workforce by sharing the latest part of a comprehensive employee benefits package, designed to help bolster mental wellbeing.

The package, confirmed in September, includes:

  • The introduction of a ‘MyDay’ holiday for 2023
  • One-off payment to employees to support with the cost of living challenges
  • Alignment of holidays, 25 days + bank holidays pro rata for all colleagues
  • Alignment of pension contributions, with up to a 10% contribution from the Society

Andrew Craddock, Darlington Building Society Chief Executive said: “Darlington Building Society takes its role as an employer seriously. People spend a considerable proportion of their time at work so we put a lot into creating a safe and pleasant working environment for people to thrive in, by protecting colleagues’ wellbeing.

“Positive financial health directly links to positive mental wellbeing, which is why I was thrilled to announce a one-off payment to colleagues to help with the increases in the cost of living. This will be paid in October and December this year.

“From 2023, all Darlington Building Society employees will also be able to take a “MyDay”. This is in addition to colleagues’ annual holiday entitlement, which already includes an extra day for their birthday, and is there for anybody who simply wants a day to rest and recharge.

“We have a number of mental health first aiders, and a strong range of health benefits, including free counselling sessions through an independent third party, should colleagues ever feel like they need to talk to someone away from work.

Reinforcing the link between financial and mental wellbeing, earlier in the year the Society also conducted a company-wide pay increase. Every role was benchmarked against the current marketplace and Darlington Building Society remains committed to paying all employees above the Real Living Wage.

Darlington Building Society is proud to be taking action to deliver positive change and support employee wellbeing, this World Mental Health Day and beyond.
