Building on success with new chief executive

Darlington Building Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Craddock as its new chief executive. Andrew will join the Society, subject to regulatory approval, on December 1st and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him.

Andrew has over 30 years of experience in the industry and joins directly from Buckinghamshire Building Society, where he has been the chief executive for the past four years. Prior to that he spent time with both Allied Irish Bank and Barclays Bank.

Darlington Building Society chairman Jack Cullen said: “We are extremely pleased to have appointed someone with this level of experience and calibre who shares the values of the Society. We firmly believe that in Andrew we have someone who can lead the Society to the next stage of our clearly-defined strategy.”

Andrew said: “I am looking forward to joining a thriving regional building society that has strong ambitions for the future.”

Andrew will succeed Colin Fyfe, who has been chief executive since 2014. Colin, who announced his departure in March this year, will leave the Society at the end of September.

The Society will also bid farewell to vice-chair and long-time member of the board, Alison Thain, at the end of the month as she takes a role outside the sector. The former group chief executive of Thirteen Housing Group joined as non-executive in October 2011 and has been a valued member of the board ever since.

Chairman Jack Cullen said: “We are extremely grateful to Alison for all her work with the Society and will miss her contributions at our board meetings and sub-committees. Everyone at Darlington Building Society wishes her well for the future and would like to thank her for her commitment and good counsel over almost seven years.”

Succeeding Alison as vice-chair will be Bob Cuffe, subject to regulatory approval. The former regional managing director of Trinity Mirror Group North East was appointed to the board in April 2013 and has a wealth of experience with the Society and is well known throughout the region.
