What is the Armed Forces Covenant?

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

It is two principles are that, recognising the unique obligations of, and sacrifices made by, the Armed Forces:

  • Those who serve in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services.
  • Special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for those who have given most such as the injured and the bereaved.

How does this apply to Darlington Building Society members who serve or have served?

One of the challenges that serving military personnel encounter is what to do with their property when they’re posted overseas. Where many standard mortgages prohibit a property being let, here at Darlington Building Society, we grant consent to let a property that is owned by any serving personnel who is sent abroad, without question. Simply contact us to tell us of your circumstances and we will take care of the rest.

We are on a continuous mission to strengthen our offering to members and colleagues who serve or have served in the Armed Forces. Check back to this page for any updates.

Celebrating our Armed Forces colleagues

The insight and experience from serving in the Armed Forces can be applied to roles right across the Society. Darlington Building Society is proud to employ a number of ex-military colleagues, some of whom share their thoughts below.
